Florence Scovel Shinn (1871-1940) was an American artist and book illustrator and a key member of the New Thought movement. After the publication of her first book, The Game of Life and How to Play It in 1925, she became a popular lecturer and writer.
Florence had the ability to explain her success principles and how they work in an entertaining and easy-to-read style. By sharing real-life stories she illustrates how positive attitudes and affirmations invariably succeed in making one a “winner” in life – able to control life’s conditions and release abundance through a knowledge of spiritual law.
Her published works include: The Game of Life and How to Play It, Your Word Is Your Wand, The Power of the Spoken Word, The Secret Door to Success, The Writings of Florence Scovel Shinn – A one-volume DeVorss edition of her four books along with a Shinn biography, The Game of Life Affirmation & Inspiration Cards – 52 cards with quotations from The Game of Life.
Emmet Fox: “One secret of her success was that she was always herself . . . colloquial, informal, friendly, and humorous. She herself was very spiritual . . . and taught by familiar, practical, and everyday examples.”
Louise Hay: “The Game of Life and How to Play It, by Florence Scovel Shinn, helped me crystallize my own thinking and moved me forward on the path to where I am today.”
Dr. Norman Vincent Peale: “The Game of Life is filled with wisdom and creative insights. That its teachings will work I know to be fact, for I’ve long used them myself.”
